We were out on a service call in Grey Oaks a few months back — routine panel inspection, nothing dramatic — when the homeowner asked almost in passing, “While you’re here, could you tell me what we’d actually need for an EV charger and one of those whole-home generators?” That question, or some version of it, comes up on nearly every job now. Naples homes are changing. New builds in Fiddler’s Creek and Isles of Collier Preserve are going up with electrical demands that would’ve seemed excessive ten years ago, and older homes along the Pine Ridge Road corridor are getting retrofitted to keep pace. So we figured it was worth laying out, in plain terms, what modern Naples homeowners are actually installing right now — and why.
Most homes built here in the 90s and early 2000s came with 150-amp or 200-amp service, which was plenty for the era. Central AC, a few kitchen appliances, maybe a pool pump. Fine. But add an EV charger, a home office with three monitors and a mini fridge, a hot tub, smart thermostats in every room, and suddenly that same panel is working overtime just to keep the lights from flickering when the dryer kicks on.
We see this constantly. Homeowner calls because their breaker keeps tripping, and it turns out the real issue isn’t a faulty breaker at all — it’s a system that was sized for 2004, trying to run a 2026 household. That’s not a repair problem. That’s a capacity problem, and it usually points toward one of the upgrades below.

It sounds like overkill until you’re the one standing in front of a panel trying to figure out which of twenty unlabeled breakers controls the pool pump. Smart panels solve that, plus they play well with solar and battery backup setups, which more Naples homeowners are asking about every year.

Anything installed outdoors here needs to be rated for the environment — proper NEMA enclosures, corrosion-resistant hardware, GFCI protection on every outdoor circuit. Cutting corners on outdoor electrical in Naples doesn’t save money long-term. It just moves the cost to a future repair call.
We probably don’t push this one as hard as we should, honestly, because it’s not flashy. But whole-home surge protection is one of the cheapest ways to protect everything else you’re installing. Naples gets its share of lightning activity, and a single surge event can fry a smart panel, an EV charger’s control board, HVAC electronics, all of it in an instant.
