In Southwest Florida, a pool isnโ€™t a luxury โ€” itโ€™s just part of the house. And most of the time, nobody thinks about the electrical side of it until something stops working.

The heater that wonโ€™t kick on. The breaker that trips every time the pump runs. The spa that works fine for a few minutes and then shuts off. These arenโ€™t random โ€” theyโ€™re usually a wiring issue, an undersized circuit, or something that wasnโ€™t installed correctly the first time.

Pool and spa equipment draws a lot of power and it runs near water. That combination means the electrical has to be done right. Dedicated circuits, correct breaker and wire sizing, proper bonding and grounding, GFCI protection in the right places. Cut corners on any of that and youโ€™re either going to have equipment problems or a safety issue โ€” sometimes both.

Coharbor Electric installs and upgrades electrical circuits for pool heaters, spas, hot tubs, pumps, and automation systems across Fort Myers, Naples, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, Sanibel Island, Estero, Fort Myers Beach, Lehigh Acres and surrounding areas.

What We Work On

New pool heater installs. Spa and hot tub circuit wiring. Pump and filtration hookups. Pool automation and controls. Equipment upgrades when whatโ€™s there isnโ€™t keeping up anymore.

We work on new construction and existing homes. If youโ€™re adding equipment for the first time or replacing something thatโ€™s been giving you trouble, we handle both.

ย

Why This Work Has to Be Done Correctly

Water and electricity in the same space means the stakes are higher than most electrical work. The NEC has specific requirements for pool and spa installations โ€” dedicated circuits, correct sizing, bonding, grounding, and properly placed GFCI protection. Those requirements arenโ€™t suggestions. They exist because improperly wired pool equipment near water can cause real harm.

Weโ€™ve seen the results of pool electrical that wasnโ€™t done right. Itโ€™s one of the areas where we donโ€™t bend on how the work gets done.

Questions We Hear

My pool equipment keeps tripping the breaker. What does that mean?

Usually it means the circuit isnโ€™t sized correctly for what itโ€™s running, or thereโ€™s a problem with the equipment drawing more current than it should. Could also be a failing breaker. Weโ€™ll come out, troubleshoot it, and tell you exactly whatโ€™s going on.

Do pool and spa systems need dedicated circuits?

Yes โ€” always. Pool heaters, spas, and hot tubs need their own dedicated circuits sized for the specific equipment. Running them off a shared circuit is a code violation and a reliable way to create problems.

What is bonding and why does my pool need it?

Bonding connects all the metal components around your pool into a unified electrical system to prevent stray voltage from building up in the water. Itโ€™s separate from grounding and itโ€™s a code requirement โ€” not something optional. Done wrong or skipped entirely, itโ€™s a safety hazard.

Can you wire pool equipment during a new pool installation?

Yes. We work with pool contractors regularly. Getting the electrical done during construction is the right way to do it โ€” much easier than working around a finished pool deck.

Do pool electrical installations require permits?

Yes. Pool and spa electrical work requires permits and inspections in Florida. We pull the permits and handle the inspection process.
