Project: LED Light Fixture Retrofit – Fort Myers, FL
We got called out to a medical office in Fort Myers because one of their exam room lights was out. It was a fluorescent fixture, and after checking it over we found both ballasts were dead. Without working ballasts, the fixture won’t run at all.
Instead of just swapping in new ballasts—which usually don’t last and just add more maintenance down the road—we recommended converting the fixture to LED. That way the office gets better light, less energy use, and no ballasts to fail again later.
What We Did
We pulled out the bad ballasts and rewired the fixture so it could take direct-wire LED bulbs. Once that was set up, we installed the new LED lamps and tested them to make sure everything came on clean, no flicker, and the wiring was safe.
The Result
The exam room now has a brighter, cleaner LED light that turns on instantly and uses less power. Since the ballasts are gone, there’s one less thing to break, which means fewer headaches and lower costs for the office in the long run.
FAQs
What caused the fluorescent fixture to fail?
Both ballasts went bad. When that happens, the whole fixture stops working.
Why retrofit instead of replacing the ballasts?
Ballasts are the weak link. By switching to LED, you don’t need them anymore, and the lights are more efficient too.
How much energy do LEDs save?
Usually around 40–50% compared to fluorescent tubes.
How long do LED bulbs last?
Anywhere from 25,000 to 50,000 hours depending on the type. That’s several times longer than fluorescent lamps.
Can other fixtures in the building be upgraded?
Yes. Pretty much any fluorescent fixture can be retrofitted to LED.
