PROJECT DESCRIPTION: WELL PUMP CIRCUIT INSTALLATION & SURGE PROTECTION – CAPE CORAL, FL
We recently completed a residential electrical project in Cape Coral, FL 33904, focused on powering a well pump system and enhancing surge protection for the entire home. The customer needed a new 220V dedicated circuit and safer outdoor power access, along with peace of mind during Florida’s storm season.
WHAT WE DID:
- Installed 50 feet of new 12/2 wire on a dedicated 20 amp circuit for the well pump
- Mounted a new weatherproof 220V outlet in a NEMA-rated box for outdoor use
- Replaced existing bell box and upgraded GFCI outlet next to the well pump
- Installed a full home surge protector at the main panel to guard against voltage spikes
- Ensured all connections were tested, code-compliant, and labeled for future service
THE RESULT:
The well pump now runs on a stable, dedicated 220V circuit—eliminating prior overload concerns. The new GFCI outlet and bell box meet outdoor safety codes, and the whole-home surge protector adds a solid layer of protection from lightning and utility surges. Everything is weather-rated, safely grounded, and professionally installed.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long did the job take?
The total install took about 4.5 hours from start to finish, including testing and cleanup.
Why was a dedicated circuit needed for the well pump?
A well pump requires a dedicated line to ensure it gets consistent voltage without competing with other appliances. This prevents nuisance tripping and motor issues.
What kind of outlet was installed?
We installed a 220V receptacle rated for outdoor use, housed in a weatherproof bell box with a durable cover for year-round protection.
What does a whole-home surge protector do?
It protects the entire home’s electrical system from voltage spikes caused by lightning, grid issues, or internal power surges—especially critical in Florida’s storm-prone areas.
Is this setup compliant with code?
Yes, all work was completed to NEC standards and passed safety inspection. The GFCI outlet also brings the setup up to modern code.
